Up Coming Events , Cafe, Student Rough Play and Parent Line Group

Coming up in a few weeks, UDIS will have a new style of celebration where children will take you on A Journey through the eyes of a Child. We do hope you will be able to attend. We shall share further details as the event becomes closer.

Dear Y1 Parents

It has been a very interesting and intense week. Please keep an eye on every student for signs of Covid as outlined in the UDIS weekly newsletter. We will do the same in the Y1 classroom. I have noticed that come students are wearing masks that are tight fitting masks. All masks are effective to only a point and I believe some are better than others. A water test, where you put a small amount of water in the cup of one of the masks should show you that there is nothing able to get through your masks and therefore they are more effective. It is also a good indicator of a copy.

Student Rough Play: Our class is mostly made up of boys who like to play fight. I have noticed it often during their play time. They all play rough and not just a few of them. I try to deter it and encourage better play. We use the classroom meeting to try and solve "problems" in our class. I encourage parents to use this system as well. When a student comes home and says " _______ hit me." Please ask them if they "Have you put your name on the Agenda for discussion? " Often they will leave out important information about their own responsibility in the incident. Every incident has two people who are somehow involved. Our classroom meetings give us a clearer picture.

Online LINE Group: I would like to stress again that LINE groups should be used for communication purposes only. Parents should not be talking about another child, unless it is their own, in the line group. If there is a concern about another student please phone the homeroom teacher (Me) or Mrs. Patty directly and we will deal with it immediately. We should be solving the problem in class not outside of it or online.

Congratulations to our Y1 Super Improvers Suer, Penneung, Lily, Leela, Ben, Victoria, Bin, Shogul, Matthew, Acre, this week! They have worked hard to improve their skills in the classroom. Some of your certificates are on your desk and waiting to be taken home and some have gone home already.

Cardboard Needed: We are still in need of cardboard for our "Journey through the eyes of a child" For our final student display each student will need a sheet, or even two sheets of cardboard, which we will be using to display their Journey. If you have a fair size box please bring it and drop it off with your student.

Studyladder: There are new assignments in Study Ladder. I noticed about 1/4 of the class has signed into the homework program. Please take the time and sign in and try some of the activities. They are all based on what the student is learning in class and give excellent practice.
